Radar Product Technical Lead – Ground-Based Tracking Radar

  • Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced Radar Product Technical Lead to drive the technical development of a new ground-based tracking radar product line. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will act as the technical owner of the product, working in close partnership with a dedicated Commercial/Business Lead who will be responsible for market strategy, partner relationship management, and commercialization. Together, you will form the core team responsible for delivering and growing this radar product line.

Job Duties:

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for the ground-based tracking radar product, both internally and with the external commercial partner.
  • Translate the partner’s system-level and operational specifications into technical requirements, architecture decisions, and development plans.
  • Lead (or coordinate with) the engineering team(s) responsible for radar hardware, signal processing, tracking algorithms, and system integration.
  • Own the technical roadmap of the product, balancing partner requirements, technical feasibility, cost, schedule, and performance targets.
  • Support system-level trade-off analysis (range, resolution, clutter rejection, tracking accuracy, update rate, environmental constraints, etc.).
  • Oversee verification & validation activities (lab testing, field trials, performance demonstrations) and ensure compliance with partner and applicable regulatory/technical standards.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Lead to align technical development with market requirements, pricing/cost targets, and partner expectations.
  • Represent the technical side of the product in meetings with the partner, providing status updates, technical justifications, and risk assessments.
  • Identify technical risks early and propose mitigation strategies to keep the program on track.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, proposals, and product specifications used for partner and customer communication.
  • Provide technical input for pricing, cost estimation, and make/buy decisions in collaboration with the Commercial Lead.

Required skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Several years of hands-on experience in radar systems (design, development, integration, and/or testing), ideally in ground-based surveillance or tracking radar.
  • Solid understanding of radar fundamentals: RF front-end, antenna systems, signal processing, target detection and tracking algorithms, clutter/interference management.
  • Experience managing or contributing to the full product development lifecycle, from requirements to field validation.
  • Ability to interface effectively with external partners/customers on technical matters, including requirement negotiation and technical reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make engineering trade-offs under real-world constraints (cost, schedule, performance).
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken);

Desired Skills / Qualifications  

  • Familiarity with relevant radar/defense industry standards and certification processes.
  • Prior experience working as a technical product owner/lead, not only as an individual contributor engineer.
  • Experience collaborating with commercial or business development teams on product strategy.

Working Relationship

This role is designed to work in tandem with a Commercial/Business Lead dedicated to the same product line. The Technical Lead owns “what gets built and how,” while the Commercial Lead owns “how it gets sold and to whom.” Close, continuous collaboration between the two roles is essential to the success of the product.

Candidate must be eligible to work in Italy.

Employment condition: Full-time, 40 hours per week.

Offered salary range: € 55.000-60.000 gross annual
